The University of Technology Sydney Tigers have won the first piece of silverware on offer, defeating the University of Western Sydney Ducks in the 9th annual Arnold Stehr Tertiary Nines.
In warm conditions at Norford Park in Sefton, the Tigers ‘A’ team collected their first pre-season trophy since 2006 running out 24 – 14 victors over an impressive Ducks side.
The Ducks, in what is only their second season in the Tertiary League, showed they will be one of the teams to beat in 2015 with an impressive on-field effort in the first half, going into the sheds up 14 – 4 before the Tigers staged a second half come back, scoring 20 unanswered points to claim the trophy.
The 2015 Tertiary League season will kick off on April 11.
