Formerly the first-grade title of the NSW Tertiary Rugby League competition from 1970 to 2020, the Bed Head Cup, also known as the University Cup, continues to be a marquee event for university rugby league teams. This year’s tournament takes on added intrigue, as last year’s champions, UTS University, will not be defending their title, leaving the door open for a new winner to be crowned.
The Contenders
TAFE NSW Polecats – As the 2024 Bronze Champions and tournament hosts, the Polecats will be determined to make a strong push on their home ground. With a passionate crowd behind them, they’ll aim to capitalize on their experience and go all the way this time.
Newcastle University – Always a tough competitor, Newcastle will be looking to make a statement and prove they are among the best university sides in the state. Expect them to bring a disciplined and physical approach to the Cup.
