Its official the Norwest Polecats are born. Tonight the 10 board members of the Tertiary League board heard the case for a new name for the Nirmba Polecats put forward by Polecats patron John McMartin.
The board heard how the former Nirmba Polecats, had to change their name as a fact of survival with the UWS Nirimba campus set to close its doors at the end of 2008, which would leave the Polecats without an affiliated university for the 2009 season and possible expulsion from the league. McMartin told the board †We have decided to take a new direction for the club that represent our geographical position in the Hills district, while not abandoning UWS Nirimba for season 2008, we need to set in motion the ability to find another campus that will represent our current position when Nirimba closes down.â€
The Tertiary League board heard the case and accepted their application unopposed. Norwest Club President Rob Weisback told us “That our affiliation with UWS Nirimba is a strong as it ever was, and we can now enjoy working closely with them for our final year together, while also looking forward to our future in the Norwest area.â€
