France to compete at World Cup

France has been confirmed as the 7th entrant in the 2008
University Student Rugby League World Cup which is scheduled to take place in Brisbane on July 4 – 19.

It was feared that the French Universities, who finished third in the last
tournament, and have been one of the most competitive and consistent sides
since the concepts inception back in 1986, would not be able to afford to
participate in the 2008 tournament.

Fortunately however the revival of the game in France has seen the funding become
available, and in late December their participation was confirmed and ratified
by the Rugby League International Federation.

France will now join
tournament hosts, Australia,
University champions, New Zealand,
plus England, Ireland, Wales
and Scotland
in the eight nation tournament.
