Well! The dust finally appears to have settled from the boys’ sexy second-half performance against the Norwest Polecats last week for Tiz’s 50th, in which the Grizz managed to run in 6 second-half tries to win big 44-12.
A new week is exactly that though, and last week’s win did not come without its losses, namely props Brad McDonell to a disapproving hammy during warm-up and Dave Onton to his 3rd retirement after a grotesquely broken finger.
They are only the 4th and 5th front rower’s to be lost this year, so the timing couldn’t be better from a Beavers point of view for a resurgent Cumbo to stroll in on the back of a Round 4 win over ‘RailCorp’, with their big pack led by Justin Shaks and guided by Dan “40-20†Eade chomping at the bit. And we’re not even talking about Uni Pub yet!
The Beavers pride was hurt in Round 1 when the Grizzlies strolled into Parramatta and left with a 26-22 victory, and who knows what else from PJ’s. While they’ve put on a diplomatic front, according to an inside source Cumberland boardroom heavyweights Edie George, Jacob Aflak and Henry Albornoz are actually “ropable†and have “had the shits for weeksâ€.
The latest mail to hit this desk is that NSWTSRL auditor Rob Weisback is being pressured by ANU oligarch Brad Hay to register contracts for Grizzlies heroes Ben Kocaj and Simon Kenny in time for Saturday’s game to sure up the G’s front line. Rumours surrounding Josh Dugan appear to carry less credence though, and Derryn “Flash†Watson’s form at the back suggest ANU are better off avoiding the troubled star for now anyway.
Kick-off is 2pm at the home of rugby league, ANU North Oval. BBQ, beers, beats, and half-time entertainment from the irrepressible Elliot Coffey.
