With the cobwebs of the offseason brushed away after last weekend’s start to the competitions, the results from Round 1 add extra interest to Round 2.
Fresh from wins over Canberra Uni in both grades, Sydney Uni make the trip to Bathurst this Saturday to take on a couple of CSU teams that must be wondering what went wrong last week after both going down to the Cumberland Beavers at home. The long road trip can take its toll but it didn’t seem to worry the Beavers and no doubt SU will be hoping for something similar.
After a narrow win over Norwest Polecats last week, which means they retain the Macca Challenge Shield at least until their next home game, the reigning 1st Division Premiers UTS Tigers trek to Canberra this week to play the Cows. The locals spirited display against SU in Round 1 is sure to give them a lift against the current champs. In 2nd Division both teams will be looking to post their first win.
Kellyville Oval hosts arguably the 1st Div match of the round with the Polecats up against Lewisham Old Boys/ACU, both defeated in Round 1 whilst after last week’s bye, RailCorp start their seaosn against the home team in 2nd Div. Two of last week’s 2nd Div winners face up at Ollie Webb Reserve when Newcastle travel down for its match Vs Cumberland Beavers.
In 1st Division two of last week’s winners have a break, West Sydney Blues win over last year’s grand finalists Lewisham Old Boys/ACU showed their form in the Nines Comp was no fluke, whilst the Cumberland Beavers win over CSU put paid to any rumours they would find the going difficult this season. ANU have the bye in 2nd Div.
