Round 17 Preview, Saturday 9 August 2014

Some crucial matches in Round 17, especially for the tightly contested fourth position on the 1st Division ladder.
Sydney Uni Lions make the trek to the capital in both grades to take on the ADFA Knights. The Knights 1st Division fell off the perch last week, losing its first match in 5 rounds, so need to make the most of the home ground advantage to win and keep its finals hopes alive, whilst its 2nd Division is still looking for the first win of the season.

Blackmore Oval sees UTS Tigers clash with Norwest/Nirimba Polecats in both divisions. The Polecats 1sts need to win to keep its finals chances in front of both the Knights and Beavers but the second placed Tigers may prove a bridge too far. Both the Tigers and Polecats 2nds are neck and neck for fourth position so plenty of interest in the outcome of this match.

The Sydney Trains do the splits this round with the 1sts up against Cumberland Beavers at Ollie Webb Reserve and their 2nds down in the ACT to play ANU Grizzlies. The Beavers desperately need to win to keep its fourth spot safe but it could be hard to achieve against first placed Trains and the Grizzlies won’t be happy with its loss last week so the lonely Trains 2nds might find it a tough road trip.
The UWS Ducks have the 2nd Division bye.
