Comp Starts and the Challenge Shield Begins

The 2010 season kicks off this Saturday and after a long summer lay-off all clubs are primed ready for action. Plenty of added interest this year too with the introduction of the John McMartin Challenge Shield. Inaugural holders, UTS Tigers, will be challenged by Norwest for the right to keep it or, if they lose, see it travel west with the Polecats. It’s early days too, but based on their 9’s form the West Sydney Blues clash with last year’s grand finalist Lewisham Old Boys/ACU is shaping as the match of the round.

The Canberra Cows  are back for their second season and travel north to face the might of Sydney Uni whilst the Cumberland Beavers will take the long road to Bathurst to play a rejuvinated CSU. Second Division newcomers ANU also hit the road for an even longer trip, trekking their way to Newcastle for their first match.

Only RailCorp miss out on the fun with a bye for Round 1.

All in all plenty of great action to start the season. Let the games begin!
