The 2014 Season is about to begin with great anticipation and a few changes from last year.
Two new clubs have joined the competitions and last year’s 1st Division Premiers’ club now bears a new name.
After much hard ground work by our Development Manager Todd Smith and others, the two new clubs to join us are: Sydney University, back after a few seasons away and UWS Ducks. The Scholars will be fielding teams in both divisions whilst the Ducks will be testing the water in 2nd Division this year, but has hopes of building the club so it can play in both divisions next year.
RailCorp now has a new moniker too, Sydney Trains, and great to see that the club is again fielding teams in both divisions.
Stalwart clubs UTS Tigers and Norwest Polecats also have retained teams in both divisions as has relative new boy the ADFA Knights. The Cumberland Beavers has built on its success as 2nd Division premiers in 2013 by moving up to 1st Division and the ANU Grizzlies return for another tilt at the 2nd Division title.
Round 1 sees reigning premiers Sydney Trains up against Norwest Polecats in their 1st Division clash at Middleton Park, precedeed by their 2nd Division teams whist the wide open spaces of Henson Park will host the Sydney Uni Vs UTS Tigers matches in both divisions – an early start for both these games as they are on the under card of a Newtown NSW Cup match. Tune into steelesports.com.au radio for a call of the 1st Division SU Vs UTS game.
Down in the ACT ADFA host Cumberland in 1st Division and ANU in 2nd Division at Addison Oval. It’s been raining all week in Canberra so fingers crossed the players will get on the field. The UWS Ducks get another week to prepare for its debut in the 2nd Division comp with the bye.
